What has been the biggest surprise of 2012 for you and your spam team?
Some facts you need to know about SEO:
Some facts you need to know about SEO:

It is vital for you to first establish whether your site has been hit by Google Panda or Google Penguin. The Penguin algorithm was launched around the 24th April 2012 so traffic drops near this date indicate that Penguin is responsible. You will also notice that the keywords you have used the most in your exact match anchor text are the ones penalized the hardest. The easiest way to see your backlink profile is to use www.majesticseo.com to analyse your links. The summary page will show you the anchor text volumes for each keyword.
Prior to Google launching the Penguin algorithm, you could use up to 70% exact match keyword density and rank well, overnight this dropped to 5%. You need to reduce the volume of keyword rich anchor text links. Replace them with Brand links, URL based links and ‘junk’ links. Your company or website are good examples of what to use for Brand links. Keep your links looking natural by using different URL variations;
If you’re running a small business or considering setting one up, money is likely to be in short supply and what funds you do have generally go on staff and administrative costs.
More often than not, there’s little money left for online marketing, however the great thing about websites and SEO is that there doesn’t have to be.
A lot of the marketing that you can achieve online is cheap, if not free. All it takes is a little bit of time and little bit of knowhow. So here are some low budget tips to get your small business, big online.
Link building
One of the first steps in improving your SEO is to get some links going to and from your website. This will show the search engines that other sites think your content is worth linking to, and therefore will rank you more highly.
There are plenty of ways to build links to other sites, some are more worthwhile than others, and some are a lot cheaper than others. The links that you pursue will depend on the industry that you’re in, but it’s important to choose them carefully as excessive or irrelevant links could do more harm than good.
Many companies underestimate the power of content and don’t really emphasize on content marketing which in real is one of the major factor to drive audience towards your company and products. Every piece of content created should have a marketing plan hidden in it to get a huge amount of traffic from all over the world. A good marketing plan must have a good content building strategy along with a good SEO strategy.
Below are some golden rules to follow for content building:
1.Set Goals: Always follow the SMART (Smart, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time Bound) rule before setting a goal for writing. If you don’t know what your destination is, you won’t know when and how to get there.
2.Know who you are: Know who you are, what your product is, what you mean to the audience and what all can you offer them. You should be very clear with your strength and weaknesses.
3.Know what your audience wants: Try to clearly understand what your customer, audience, partners, clients requirements are or what they want from you. A clear understanding can help you set a clear goal. Prioritize your top audiences and try to know what value you can provide them to solve their problem.
An ʹelevator speech ʹ is a short verbal presentation of your company. The best were those that could explain a business proposition to the occupants of an elevator in the time it took them to ride to their floor. In other words, an elevator speech that worked was able to describe and sell an idea in 30 seconds or less. Today, an ʹelevator speech can be any kind of short speech that sells an idea, promotes your business or markets you as an individual.
With the constant hype surrounding social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest, it’s easy to start thinking that there is nothing but upside to using these websites. However, regardless of how much the tech press may adore social media, that doesn’t automatically mean they are the right fit for your business. Before you leap onto this bandwagon, consider the following five reasons why social media may not be the best marketing channel for your business:
You’re Not Ready to Commit: A common misconception about social media is that you can jump in and quickly attract a flood of leads for your business. While that would be great, it’s not the way things work. Instead, since the power of social media is the ability to build relationships, it takes time to see results. If you’re not ready to commit to this channel, you’re going to end up frustrated and feeling like you wasted a chunk of your valuable time.

Relative Content is the Best Thing you can do as the owner of your site, it is your responsibility to make sure that all the information about your company, what you do, where you service, your specials and your unique training and specialties are put on your site.
Not only for the search engines but more importantly for your clients and prospective clients to see.
Take this month of December and go through your site with a fine tooth comb so to speak. Look at what your site actually says about you and more importantly what it fails to say. Think about what you would tell your friends if asked about your firm and what you do.
What is important is it prominently mentioned on the site or worse missing altogether?
Do you have special equipment that helps you do a better faster more efficient job for your clients? For example, Leak detectors, video inspection equipment, trenchless digging equipment etc.
Have you had extra training in some specialty of the Plumbing Heating Cooling Industry that your clients should know about? Now is the time to get your site updated.
Offer some internet only specials for your clients and change them often, monthly if possible as that will keep folks coming back.
The point is use this site constantly it will perk up the interest of the Search Engines as well as your clients and prospects.

For that matter what constitutes better design and how does it affect traffic to your site.
Some think that better design is simply a more visually appealing web site.
To me as a career sales person it means better communication.
The primary thing that you as a Plumber/HVAC contractor want to make sure your visitors see is who you are, what you offer, why that’s important to them and perhaps why you can likely do it better, more economically and/or faster than your competition.
So communicating these things to your site visitors in a clean efficient way becomes of paramount importance in the design of your website.
While the aesthetics of better design are important, of even more importance to me is the layout of information, white space and navigational tools that are delivered with the right fonts, spacing and appropriate use of size and color.
Good design takes time and costs a little more sometimes, but so does poor design, clutter and confusing information.
As sites are on the web for a while they begin to attract clutter, things keep getting added on and the information becomes cluttered or confused or nothing changes and the site style and content becomes stale to both the visitor and the search engines.
Keep these things in mind when you look at your site and decide whether a redesign in needed.
Also consider as a vital part of the design, the goal of the site. Make it easy for them to place a service call using your site or contact you in various ways to ask questions about their particular plumbing HVAC needs that you can help with.
Remember as always to keep the search engines interested and your rankings high aim to please your clients and prospects. Give them what they want and need about your services and the search engines will be interested too.
Invest in better communication through better design – it always pays when you get it right.
