I was working on my computer the other day and I thought that I had found a large number of redundant files that I should delete. I had not caught on to the fact that Window 7 has the ability to pull files by name from all the sub-directories. So when I saw all these files with the same name I thought somehow I had duplicates.

To make a long story short, I deleted over 29,000 graphic files and then emptied the waste bin

Fortunately Steve Featherston at Computer Connection Consulting had installed a neat program called Acronis Backup on my system. It automatically backups up my files daily, all of them even the operating systems. With a few keystokes and about an hour and a half I was able to back everything up where it belonged. It even resets you computer when the hard drive crashes or you get a brand new computer.

Disaster Averted. You might want to check into that. Give Steve a call at (440) 969-6095 . He can install it remotely and instruct you how to use it over the internet. Sure saved me from a computer disaster.

When people bounce off your page without going anywhere else on your site it is referred to as the bounce rate for your site. If you have a high “bounce rate” it will have a negative affect on your rankings with the Search Engines.

Make sure you website looks good and functions well. You will increase traffic and business.

For a page on the Internet to be truly successful it must connect to the real world as well. Although the division between the two are getting closer and closer together.

Here are some things that each of you need to make sure you are doing to connect your world to people who are NOT on the net.

1. Put your website address on every piece of printed material that leaves your office. Letterhead, Business cards, Invoices everything.
2. Put it on all your trucks, this is extremely important! I would even get some bumper stickers and see if you can get your employees, family and friends to use them.
3. Make sure the Web Address is prominent in every advertisement you use, Yellow Pages, News Paper Ads etc.
4. Are you a member of any business groups? Local Business organization, PHCC Associations any group that you are a member of is likely to have a website with a place where you can be listed or and this is important paper handouts with their members listed. Try and get your website added as a part of your address, because it IS a legitimate part of the address of your company.

In other words, make sure that you place your website address in as many places where people not on the web can find it as possible. Some of you folks have been known to sponsor ball teams, race cars etc. Don’t let them put your name on anything without your website being there too.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – The designing and customizing of your existing site so as to optimize it for Keywords and phrases relative to the specific area that you service and the services and products offered in that area.

• Start by developing a list of keywords that are relative to your business. Then you can use online tools to research those keywords and identify others that are important. You can also look at historical data on Google, Yahoo and Bing to determine which keywords are used the most in searches.

• Then you can or have your webmaster optimize the current pages and build additional pages as needed to ensure you have enough content to justify a high ranking by the Search engines for each of the words you wish to use. For example, if we came up with a list of 50 keywords (Yourcity Plumber, Yourcity Plumbing, Yourcity Plumbing Contractor, Yourcity Hot Water Heater Repair, Yourcity Hot Water Heater Installation, Yourcity Drain Cleaning, etc) then we need to be sure that we have a page on the website that has been optimized for each of these different keywords.
